About This Place

Nestled conveniently within the bustling Mitsuwa Marketplace at 4342 Moorpark Ave in San Jose, Clover Bakery & Cafe stands out as a charming and authentic Japanese bakery and cafe that beckons both locals and visitors alike. This cozy and welcoming spot offers far more than your typical bakery experience, presenting a vibrant array of freshly baked breads, pastries, and Japanese-inspired savory delights that cater to every craving.

What makes Clover Bakery & Cafe truly remarkable is its masterful blend of traditional Japanese flavors with freshly baked goods – a combination that brings a delightful depth to every bite. You’ll find yourself drawn in by an impressive menu featuring everything from the delicate まさごパン (masago bread) and rich Spam Musubi to the decadently creamy Cream Custard Bun and the ever-popular Baked Curry Bun. Not to mention the rice-based onigiri options like the Sake Rice Ball, which showcase the cafe's dedication to authentic Japanese snack culture.

Those with a sweet tooth will particularly enjoy their elegantly layered cakes – the Strawberry Cake, Christmas Cake, and the classic Strawberry Shortcake are anything but ordinary. Each pastry melts effortlessly in your mouth, artfully balancing sweetness with light, fluffy textures that speak to the bakery's commitment to quality and flavor.

The savory sandwich selection is just as impressive. Think of the robustly flavored Spicy Tuna Sandwich, a treat that offers a kick of heat balanced by fresh ingredients, or the tender Shrimp Sandwich that is loved by many for its crisp, juicy fillings. Fans of Japanese katsu will appreciate the Croquette Burger and Shrimp Cutlet Burger, both crispy and hearty, making for a satisfying meal that transports your taste buds straight to Japan.

Regular patrons repeatedly mention the bakery’s friendly service and inviting atmosphere. Whether you arrive early on a weekday to grab a quick coffee and a freshly baked croissant roll or during a bustling weekend at Mitsuwa Marketplace, Clover Bakery & Cafe rewards its guests with consistent quality and a warm vibe. Parking might require a bit of patience during peak times, but as one loyal customer aptly put it, "May the odds forever be in your favor." The payoff is undeniably worth it.

Beyond the menu, the bakery takes pride in a carefully curated selection of breads priced reasonably, such as the soft and fluffy Milk Bread, nutty Walnut Bread, and comforting Raisin Bread. For a more petite indulgence, their mini pastries like the Mini Custard Cream and Chocolate Chip Melon Bread offer delightful bursts of flavor and texture that are perfect for a quick snack or sharing.

Real customer experiences illustrate Clover Bakery & Cafe’s reputation: from the standout fried pork bread and minced beef bread praised for their hearty, savory fillings to the tender, fresh onigiri and musubi adored by fans of Japanese comfort food. While not every bread suits every preference—such as one visitor’s less favorable impression of the cocoa melon bread—the vast majority of reviews highlight the quality, freshness, and authenticity of the offerings. The staff's consistently warm and welcoming demeanor further enhances the experience, making each visit feel like a genuine neighborhood gem discovery.

All these elements come together to make Clover Bakery & Cafe more than just a place to grab baked goods — it is a destination that invites you to savor the subtle artistry of Japanese baking and cafe culture. Whether you're seeking a comforting breakfast, a mid-day snack, or a nostalgic taste of Japan, Clover Bakery & Cafe delivers with bite after memorable bite.

Clover Bakery & Cafe is cute and neat! It has a variety of pastries and drinks with good portion and reasonable price. It's located in the super popular Mitsuwa Marketplace along with Teaspoon, Tomi Sushi and others. If you come here in the weekend, prepare to spend at least 15 minutes or more to look for parking. May the odds forever in your favor That being said, you'll be rewarded when you step inside Clover Bakery! The store looks inviting with an aisle against the wall with all the pastries you can imagine in your life. There's a table in the middle too with extra goodies and delicious stuff. Grab a tray and a tongue and the bakery is now your oyster! Go roaming and come back and share what you got There is very limited seating inside. Only a tiny table and two chairs so it's mostly grab and go at this bakery. I came on a Saturday at noon and the store was not crowded at all. I got a peach danish, a spam musubi, a chocolate chip green tea round puff and a strawberry milk. There was a bench just right outside of the store so my friend and I sat there and enjoyed our finds. I liked their spam musubi. The rice was moist and fragrant! The spam had the nice flavors and kicks. Everything worked well together and was comforting to eat. The strawberry milk was refreshing and not too sweet (which is the best compliment an Asian can give ) Perhaps because I didn't have chance to try the peach danish and the chocolate green tea puff till a day later, they didn't taste that spectacular to me. Overall, it was a nice experience visiting Clover Bakery, minus the parking headache.

I tried the fried pork bread, cocoa melon bread, the minced beef bread and the fried fish bread. The coca melon is not good as I expected. It tastes just like plain bread. However, the others bread are good. Price is good. Service is perfect. Everyone is nice and welcoming with a smile.

Came in on at 8:30am on a Wednesday, no problems parking in the free parking lot area. Food was great, there's an assortment of Japanese snack foods from rice based onigiri, even musubis, to typical bread combinations found in many Japanese stores. Drinks like coffee, tea and others were also available. I ordered a croquette burger (usually potatoes and other veg, fried), a shrimp cutlet burger, beef curry bun, and a couple of slamon & ikura (salmon roe) onigiri. Everything was lovely. Service was great, note that there are no dine-in options. But the cashier was patient as we were asking clarifications on our orders for the onigiri and other bread that was avaialble and about to be ready. Atmosphere is a bit more frantic because the place had just opened and all the customers wanted to get fresh bread and onigiri. But overall solid an pleasant.

I believe Clover Bakery is the best bakery store in San Francisco Bay Area. The store sells all fresh baked breads which taste are really delicious. Especially, my favorite breads are Fried Curry Pan, Shrimp Burger, Yakisoba Pan, and Croquette Burger. I have not ordered Roll Balls, Musubi yet but I can be sure they are also so delicious. It is a far from my home but I am happy to drive to buy these delicious Japanese style breads which are really worth. Also, I noticed the store makes a Japanese style birthday cake. I will order it for the next my son's birthday.

Cozy and welcoming neighborhood JP bakery/cafe with tons of selection (pastries, fresh onigiri/other food and drinks). During peak hours it's common to have a line/some challenge parking in the plaza lot. I love their melonpan, spicy tuna sandwich (very spicy for me) and unagi musubi/onigiris. Takeout only.

this bakery is tiny but quaint & very popular(iirc it blew up on tiktok a while ago) & has a great variety of inexpensive japanese breads as well as drinks, onigiri, sandwiches. all of the baked goods taste like what i make at home in the best possible way, and there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes. i live nearby so i stop by often but i always make sure to get something i haven’t tried before. my personal favs are the crab & fish roe bread, milk bread(comes in no sliced, thin sliced, thick sliced), melon bread, & strawberry milk. before you come in know that some of the breads have a purchase limit!!! ex. the crab roe bread has a limit of 4

Awesome bakery with lots of familiar buns, sandwiches and pastries you might see in Japan. Prices are really good for the bay area. Definitely order some onigiri to bring home as well! Got the curry and ginger beef onigiri and both were pretty tasty. The melon bread was decent and the sandwich I got was excellent! Gets a bit busy though, so expect a bit of a wait (the onigiri is freshly made, so they might need some time to make them for you as well)

This is a little Japanese-run pastry shop that also sells a variety of onigiri and sandwiches. They also sell drinks. Very popular spot and they can sell out of some items. Prices are excellent and service is friendly. There's typically a line around lunch time but the employees work quickly. Parking is free but you may have to hunt for a spot.
